New MERV 8 Prefilter Slashes Change-out Frequency and Cost

Camfil-Farr has introduced the first true MERV 8
prefilter, the 30/30.  

This MERV 8 prefilter is distinctive in having earned
five stars on the ECI (Energy Cost Index)– the highest
performance rating granted.  It is well-suited to a broad
range of industrial, commercial and institutional
environments.

The 30/30 MERV 8 prefilter substantially reduces
energy costs associated with HVAC operation. Key
to this ability is a very high dust holding capacity. Tests
show this MERV 8 prefilter has 30% higher dust holding
capacity than an ordinary MERV 8 filter.  This reduces
the frequency of changeouts, while keeping airflow
resistance low. In fact, this MERV 8 prefilter has the
lowest average pressure drop of any MERV 8 product. 
Low pressure drop translates directly into lower
energy costs. 

The 30/30 MERV 8 prefilter is ideal as a stand-alone
filter for large AHUs, where it helps to create a
healthful and productive environment for areas with
high population density.

For facilities or departments where HEPAs or other
high efficiency filters are required, Camfil Farr’s
MERV 8 prefilter offers a long service life and a
very low end-of-life pressure drop.

The media for the 30/30 MERV 8 prefilter is a
proprietary blend of cotton and synthetic fibers
which loads with exceptional uniformity.  The media
is all-mechanical, rather than electrostatic, and
maintains consistent, high removal efficiency
throughout the life of the filter.  This is in marked
contrast to other MERV 8 products, which are made
with electrostatically charged media. For those products,
filtration efficiency plummets as dust loads.  

The 30/30 MERV 8 prefilter also has high structural
integrity, thanks to radial media pleats which are
secured by a welded wire grid, spot-welded on
one-inch centers. The grid is treated for corrosion
protection and is bonded to the media. 

A high wet strength beverage board frame creates
a stable, non-yielding media pack. The media pack
is bonded to the frame and diagonal support members
are bonded to each pleat to enhance rigidity through
bridge-style engineering.  Filter bypass is virtually
eliminated. Camfil Farr’s 30/30 MERV 8 prefilter is
guaranteed to 2.0” w.g. without media pack failure.

The MERV 8 30/30 represents the greatest overall
value in medium efficiency filtration.  Its distinctive
design provides full use of the media.  This means a
longer service life, and a reduction in both solid waste
